Test run with a new camera
Not too much to say here, except that I finally got around to testing my new camera, a Leica Q2. We headed to the mountains near Pinetop for a break from the Phoenix inferno, and I got out a couple of late mornings to see what I could see. I didn’t bother getting out in “golden hour” since I wanted to see how the camera handled harsh light and shadows.
The camera puts out great color, but that’s what Leica is known for, after all.
This photo makes use of the camera’s macro mode. I’m not sure I’ll use it very much, but it’s nice to have when you want to get close up. This gnarled stump-dragon seems happy enough with the result.
Auto focus was a bit of a struggle, but I knew it would be a learning curve. I know how to set it to get the results I want, and the manual focus works well.
I know I’ll enjoy this camera. It’s suited to landscapes, it’s compact and easy to set up and shoot. I’ll get in some more practice here in the next week or so, and then head to White Sands, NM, to shoot some Dunes.
